The the Oak Openings Research Forum, the keynote speaker was Richard Bradley who spoke about spiders. He was an excellent speaker and provided valuable information and was entertaining. He has a book out "Common Spiders of North America", which I have ordered. He also has excellent website "Ohio Spiders" which I have linked. This site talks about the Ohio Spider Survey, and has information about how to observe and collect spiders.
A very neat video of a Bola Spider was presented. This spider creates a spider silk sticky bola and uses it to capture prey. Here are some videos of it in action:
Another book by Richard Bradley about spiders is In Ohio's Backyard: Spiders which also looks interesting.
As a side note, Dr. Bradley is looking for people to take on the challenge of a spider survey
