On Saturday August 10th we did a nature walk for our monthly Lucas County "Unofficial" OCVN meeting. We met at Swan Creek Preserve's Window on Wildlife. But before we even got there, an Eastern Comma butterfly gave us a good show. It was very accommodating, showing off both its Dorsal (top) and Ventral sides for us to photograph.
Next we sat in the Window on Wildlife for a bit. There were not a lot of birds, and after a bit a hawk swooped through the area. But there was a young wood chuck who was enjoying the sunflower seeds
On a walk through the park we saw numerous Summer Azures flying around often landing on Wingstem plants. Dennis M got some great shots of what them appearing to be laying eggs. I did not get as good as shots as Dennis did, but I got a few.
As we continued our walk, an Eastern Tailed-Blue butterfly put on a show for us. Once again we were able to view and photograph both sides.
As we finished our walk, 2 white tail buck deer were grazing near the trail. We had earlier seen a doe and 2 fawns run across the trail, but these 2 gentlemen seem uninterested in us.
We also saw lots of people out enjoying nature. All in all a very good day in a Metropark.
